Most hoyas are easily cultivated in our
indoor climate. They thrive in the warmth and do not need much care. Some water,
and nutrition occasionally, and they will do just fine. Many species grow very
fast and can in less than a year be mature, flowering plants. But there are
always exceptions; some grow slow, some need a lot of water and others need
cooler night temperatures to thrive. It can be wise to try to learn more about
the species you plan to buy so you know some about its natural habitat. Then
growing them will be much easier and more rewarding.
The growth habit of hoyas is basically
hanging, climbing or shrubby. Some of the hanging hoyas also have climbing
abilities. So, some hoyas are best grown in hanging baskets while others are
best grown supported on a trellis. Of course, many hoyas can be grown either way,
it is just a matter of personal taste.
Most hoyas flower from the same peduncle over and over, so be careful
with it and do not remove it after the flowers have dropped. Some species
only flower from their peduncles once and others only a few times. But
if you let the plant decide when to drop it you will not make any mistake.

Pests are almost unavoidable, but there are some things you can do to
minimise the risk of getting them. You can read some descriptions of the
