Dischidia hirsuta

Published in Prodromus Systematis Naturalis Regni Vegetabilis 8 632 (1844) by Joseph Decaisne. Dischidia hirsuta orginates from Burma and Malaya. The name hirsuta refers to its hairy foliage.

Dischidia hirsuta is a lovely species. I just love the hairy foliage. The leaves get a reddish tint when exposed to sunlight. There are several different clones of Dischidia hirsuta with different colours of the flowers. This one has white/yellow flowers. I have not felt any scent from them. I

grow my Dischidia hirsuta hanging, but it is a good twiner so it can be grown supported on a trellis as well. I have my plant in a window facing to the north. It tolerates drought.

Below, to the right, is the pollinarium which differs somewhat from those of Hoya. It measures 1.1 mm which is rather large for such a small flower.
