Published in Fraterna 14(2):4 (2001) by R. D. Kloppenburg and E. Gilding. Eriostemma ariadna originates from Ambon Island, Indonesia. It was originally published as Hoya ariadna in Prodromus Systematis Naturalis Regni Vegetabilis 8:635 (1844) by J. Decaisne. It was moved to Eriostemma by Kloppenburg and Gilding in 2001.
Since this is an Eriostemma it can be quite tricky to get in
bloom, at least if you
are growing your plant on a windowsill in Sweden. |

My plant has not flowered yet even though it has made a few tries, so the pictures above I took at a hoya meeting in September 2007. The plant actually had two more peduncles so the owner had done a good job! I have my plant in a southern window without no shading. In the summer I take the plant to my greenhouse. Hopefully I will enjoy the beautiful flowers in my collection some day! Eriostemma ariadna has medium sized leaves. It grows fast so it requires a lot of space. Be sure to put it on a steady support from the beginning. The leaves are almost round, glabrous and medium green. |
