Published in Austrobaileya 3(3) (1991) by P. I. Forster and D. Liddle. Hoya australis subsp. tenuipes originates from Australisa and Oceania. Hoya australis subsp. tenuipes is
one of the more common hoyas in trade at the florist's. It is easy
to grow and a good choice for the beginner as it grows fast and is
quite easy to get in bloom. After only a few years this will be a
quite big hoya so it's an good idea to give it a steady support
from the beginning. |

Hoya australis subsp. tenuipes is a lovely hoya with its dark green and shiny foliage. New growth is usually dark red, but it turns green as it matures. This hoya thrives and flowers in a shaded position. I have my plant in a window facing north. It tolerates drought even though it prefers not to dry completely between waterings. The white flowers are quite big, up to 2.5 cm. The centre of the corolla is dark pink. When a lot of clusters are in bloom at the same time the spicy scent can be quite overwhelming. Below, to the right, is a picture of the pollinarium which measures 0.95 mm. |
