Hoya buotii (IML1862)

R. D. Kloppenburg

Published in Fraterna 15(4):1 (2002) by R. D. Kloppenburg. Hoya buotii originates from the Philippines.

Hoya buotii is definately one of my favourites. I love the big, yellow and hairy flowers. The scent is somewhat like vanilla. The leaves are thin, so I never let this one dry completely between waterings. I have my plant placed in a southern window and I shade it in summer so it doesn't get burned. The first time it flowered was in November. Unfortunately I forgot to water it so the flowers dried and dropped too early.

There are different opinions on the correct name of this hoya. Christine Burton maintains Hoya buotii is the same as Hoya  halconensis. I don't know which is correct, so I will keep the name Hoya buotii on my plant until further notice.

Left most; the buds on my plant (IML1862) just a few days before they opened.

To the left; the flowers on Hoya sp. aff. buotii (NS05-242) collected in the wild by Nathalie Simonsson.
