Published in Repertorium Novarum Specierum Regni Vegetabilis 5 131 (1908) by Karl Rechinger. It was collected by Rechinger near Tiavi, Upolu, Samoa in 1905. The name chlorantha comes from Greek and means green flowering.

The pollinarium to the right most below measures 0.95 mm.
