Hoya greenii

D. Kloppenburg

Published in Fraterna 2 12 (1995) by D. Kloppenburg. Hoya greenii originates from the Philippines. Hoya greenii is named for its collector, Ted Green.

Hoya greenii likes a lot of light and I have my plant in a window facing south. In summer I put the plant in shade so it doesn't get burned. I never let this one dry completely as it doesn't seem to like that. As long as you water it regularly it's an easy hoya to grow and I think it's fair to say that it's a fast grower.

Hoya greenii
is a climber but it does not twine very well, so it will need some help around if grown supported by a trellis. The leaves are long and narrow, 14 cm long and 3 cm wide. They are very thin, feels almost like paper, and the veins are visible.

My plant flowered for the first time after a year and a half. I think it was well worth waiting for! The flowers are really lovely. I love the dark, wine red colour at the centre of the corona. The flowers do not seem to want to hang down, so the cluster looks quite funny with all the flowers reaching upwards.

Bud just about to open.
