Hoya sp. Kalimantan (IML1168)

I bougth a cutting of Hoya sp. Kalimantan (IML1168) in September 2008. Now in April 2009 it got in bloom for the first time. This is definately a hoya to grow for its spectacular leaves. The light green levaes with the dark green veins are beautiful. They are large and very hard. The back surface is covered with short hair.

The flowers remind very much of those of Hoya finlaysonii. The scent is strong and reminds of citrus.

Plant
Leaves: 17 cm long, 8 cm wide, thick and hard, dark green veins
Growth habit: climbing
Flowers
No. in a cluster: 20-25
Size: 12 mm (measured flat)
Colour: yellow corolla with reddish brown outer lobes, white corona
Form: reflexed
Scent: strong, reminds of citrus
Nectar: not visible
Lastingness: 3-4 days

They are very small and I guess when my plant grows older the flowers in the umbel will be more numerous.

Even though Hoya sp. Kalimantan (IML1168) seems to be a slow grower it is quite easy to grow. It tolerates drought and does not seem to require a lot. My plant got in bloom with flouroscent light so it does not seem to need very bright light to thrive.

To the left is a picture of the pollinarium which is 0.75 mm long.
