Hoya kuhlii

(C. L. Blume) S. H. Koorders

Published in Exkursionsflora von Java 3 103 (1912) by S. H. Koorders. Hoya kuhlii originates from Java.

Hoya kuhlii is in my opinion a quite anonymous hoya.  There is nothing special about the leaves, almost boring. In any big hoya collection I guess this one doesn't have the highest priority. Maybe that is why you seldom see any good pictures of this one on the Internet?

Plant
Leaves: light/medium green 11 cm long, 3 cm wide
Growth habit: climbing
Flowers
No. in a cluster: 10-15
Size: 1 cm (measured flat)
Colour: yellow/beige corolla, almost red corona
Form: revoulte
Scent: -
Nectar: yes, light orange
Lastingness: 2 weeks

But I must say that the flowers are beautiful. I really like the colour combination; the yellow corolla with a reddish tint and the bright red centre of the corona. I haven't felt any scent of the flowers yet. Maybe that is why the colours are so bright?

The peduncle is very long, at least 10 cm. The cluster is concave and there is a lot of space between the flowers. Because of the beatiful flowers I guess I'll keep this hoya, at least for a while.
