Hoya litoralis

F. R. R. Schlechter

Published in Nachträge zur Flora der Deutschen Schutzgebiete in der Südsee 363 (1905) by F. R. R. Schlechter. Schlechter collected it in the trees at the beach area in Potsdamhafen, Papua New Guinea. The name litoralis means "pertaining to the sea-shore".

I got my Hoya litoralis as a cutting from Botanova in 2006. It is in my opinion easy to grow and it thrives in a window facing south. It tolerates drought. The leaves are light green and the veins are hardly visible. New growth is red. It has some climbing abilities, but I grow my plant hanging. Since the leaves are rather thick the branches get quite heavy making them hang down.

Plant
Leaves: light green, thick, 9 cm long, 2.8 cm wide
Growth habit: hanging / climbing
Flowers
No. in a cluster: ~20
Size: 1.1 cm (measured flat)
Colour: pink corolla, dark red corona
Form: revolute
Scent: caramel
Nectar: yes a lot
Lastingness: about 10 days

Unfortunately I doubt my plant is correctly identified. The leaves are pubescent at the back side but the scientific description states Hoya litoralis is glabrous on both sides of the leaves. To the right most below is a picture of the pollinarium which measures 0.45 mm.
