Hoya macrophylla

Published in Bijdragen tot de Flora van Nederlandsch Indië 1063 (1826) by C. L. Blume. The name Hoya macrophylla refers to its large leaves. Hoya macrophylla originates from Java.

My Hoya macrophylla was over four years old before I finally got it in bloom for the first time. The plant is now huge and it was not until I took some cuttings from it that one of the cuttings started to bloom. I had the cutting in a glass of water and one day I

noticed that it had started producing a peduncle with buds on it.

Hoya macrophylla is well worth growing for its leaves, but you need to have a fairly large space for it because this species is really large. Make sure to use a steady support from the beginning. The pollinarium (below to the right) measures 0.5 mm.

Please note that I am not sure that the identification of my plant as Hoya macrophylla is correct.
