Published in Fraterna 17(4) 2 (2004) by R. D. Kloppenburg. It was collected by Blas Hernaez in the Philippines. Hoya memoria was named for the Memorial Garden in Manila where it is grown. Hoya memoria is easy to grow. It tolerates drought, but it grows better if it gets water and fertilizer on a regular basis. A shady position is enough. I grow my plant under a flourescent lamp and it thrives there. It took some years before I |

got it in bloom, but once it has started it blooms often. The scent of caramel fills the room in the evenings. Hoya memoria can be grown both hanging or supported by a trellis. It does not twine very well so it will need some help around if grown on a trellis. The leaves vary very much in size; many leaves are only 7 cm long but some are as big as 17 cm. The leaves are glabrous and covered with silver flecks. This species has been circulating for years as Hoya gracilis before it was published as Hoya memoria in 2004. Occasionally it still appears as Hoya gracilis. On the picture right most below is the pollinarium which measures 0.45 mm. |
