Hoya microphylla

F. R. R. Schlechter

Published in Botanische Jahrbücher für Systematik, Pflanzengeschichte und Pflanzengeographie 50 127-128 (1913) by Friedrich Richard Rudolf Schlechter. It was collected on Bismarck Mountains, Papua Nya Guinea by Schlechter in 1908. The name means small leaves.

Hoya microphylla probably has the smallest leaves among hoyas, but the flowers are really big compared to the leaves, about 2 cm wide!

Hoya microphylla is a tricky hoya to grow. It requires constant humidity. I give my plant water every day. When it gets a bit bigger I will plant it in a self watering pot. It is a cold growing species and it does not tolerate sunlight so a cool window window facing north is recommended. Also it is sensitive to fertilizers. My plant is still small and it has not bloomed yet so the picture above is from a friends plant.
