Hoya multiflora (IML0153)

C. L. Blume

Published in Catalogus van eenige der Merkwaardigste Zoo in- als Uit-heemse Gewassen, te Vinden in's Lands Plantentuin te Buitenzorg 49 (1823) by C. L. Blume. Hoya multiflora originates from Malaysia and the Philippines.

Hoya multiflora (IML 0153) is different from my other multifloras as it is much harder to get in bloom. I'd had my plant for almost two years before it got in bloom the first time. It produces new peduncles in every node, but they seldom develop buds. Hoya multiflora (IML 0153) is

Plant
Leaves: dark green, silver flecks, 17 cm long, 5 cm wide
Growth habit: shrubby
Flowers
No. in a cluster: ~ 50
Size: 2.5 cm (measured flat)
Colour: white and yellow corolla, white corona
Form: reflexed
Scent: no
Nectar: not visible
Lastingness: ~ 3 weeks

collected on Java and is said to be the real Hoya multiflora but I can't say whether it is correct or not. As far as I now research is still ongoing and the last word is probably not said about Hoya multiflora and Hoya javanica.

Hoya multiflora
has a shrubby growth and it isn't worth the effort trying to twine it on a trellis. The result will probably not be any good anyway. I just let my plant grow wild and occasionally cut the branches off when they get too long. Then I root the cuttings and put them in the same pot so I get a nice compact bush.
