Hoya nabawanensis (IML1780)

D. Kloppenburg & E-K. Wiberg

Published in Fraterna 15(2) 2 (2002) by D. Kloppenburg and E-K. Wiberg. Hoya nabawanensis originates from Sabah, Borneo. It is named after the place where it was found.

I bought my Hoya nabawanensis (IML1780) from David Liddle in September 2006. It got it in bloom for the first time in june 2007. It's a nice hoya, somewhat resembling Hoya lacunosa, but the flowers are more flat. The cluster is concave, unlike Hoya lacunosa. The corolla is pink at

the centre. I haven't felt any scent from the flowers, but that doesn't necessarily mean that there is none. Maybe I've just put my nose in the cluster at the wrong time?

This hoya is best suited for the hanging basket as it has no climbing abilities. The leaves are glabrous and dark green. They have only a  few silver flecks. I have my plant in a window facing north where it flowers continuously. It tolerates drought.

To the left is a picture of the pollinarium which measures 0.45 mm.
