Hoya obovata x Hoya carnosa var. carnosa

cultivar

This cultivar comes from Eva-Karin Wiberg's collection. She got seeds on a Hoya obovata and this is one of the seedlings.

I got this hybrid as a small cutting in June 2007. Now in August 2009 it is in bloom for the first time. It is easy to see which are the parents of this hybrid. The dark green leaves are thick as the ones of Hoya obovata, but are ovate like the ones of Hoya carnosa var. carnosa. The leaves are covered with silver spots. The flowers remind more of Hoya carnosa var. carnosa, but the centre of the corona is much darker and they are slightly more recurved, like Hoya obovata.

This is definately a hybrid well worth growing. It does not grow too fast, but will in time be a very big plant. I recommend a steady support from the beginning. It is a climber, but since it is a quite thick plant it does not twine very well. It will need some help around to make a nice looking plant, at least if you want a compact plant. It likes some cooler temperatures so I grow mine in the garden room. It also tolerates drought very well.

The pollinarium at the most right picture below measures 0.8 mm.
