Hoya obscura (USDA81079)

A. D. E. Elmer ex C. M. Burton

Published in Hoyan 8(1) 15 (1986) by A. D. E. Elmer ex C. M. Burton. Hoya obscura originates from the Philippines.

This clone of Hoya obscura (USDA81079) has more apricot coloured flowers, which is different from the yellow coloured clone I also have. Also, the leaves are somewhat different as they are darker green and not as thick as on my other plant. The leaves have more wavy edes and don't get the red tint if exposed to the sun.

Plant

Colour: yellow/apricot
Form: revolute
Scent: yes

Lastingness: about a week

Otherwise, this Hoya obscura is as easy to grow as other clones and it's well worth growing. The fragrant flowers are just lovely!

Hoya obscura can be grown both in a hanging basket or supported by a trellis. If grown supported by a trellis it will need some help arround though, as it doesn't twine very well.

The plant tolerates drought but grows better if you don't let it dry completely between waterings. I have my plant in a shaded southern window but I guess it is best placed in a window facing east or west. Hoya obscura is one of the easiest hoyas to grow. It grows fast and flowers readily. So, this is a hoya I definately would recommend for the beginner.
