Hoya padangensis is sometimes sold as Hoya uncinata. As Hoya uncinata was published first (Teijsm. & Binn., Tijdschr. Nederl. Ind. 35 (1863) 408) it should be the correct name, but I've learned that a reference to a herbarium sheet is missing making that publication invalid. Hoya padangensis is named after the place where it was found; Padang Pandjang on Sumatra, Indonesia.

The foliage is quite nice with its mother-of-pearl shimmering leaves. The black spots on the leaves are typical for this

species. It is quite easy to grow, but probably needs some time before it flowers. I've had my plant since January 2006, but I still haven't managed to get it in bloom. The pictures of the flowers above I took from a friends plant.
