Hoya sp. cf. coriacea

This hoya has been sold as Hoya coriacea by Botanova here in Sweden. I have no information about where it originates from. It has been suggested that it might be a hybrid between Hoya coriacea and Hoya fraterna since it reminds of both these species. It has also been suggested that it might be a Hoya angustisepala, but that name has been sunk into with Hoya coriacea by Dale Kloppenburg in Fraterna 14(1) 11 (2001). C. M. Burton suggests that this is probably antoher yet unidentified species.

No matter what it is, it is a lovely hoya! It is thin leaved so it needs water on a regular basis. It tolerates some drought but if you water it more often it rewards you with a lot of new healthy growth. I had to place my plant in a window facing to the South to get it in bloom. And then, of course, you need to water it even more! Even though my plant is potted in a self watering pot I need to fill it every 4-5 day. The leaves are big, medium green and glabrous. It is a good climber and grows fast so a steady support is recommended. The flowers are absolutely lovely. They are covered with white hair so it is impossible not to touch them.

The pollinarium at the most right picture below measures 1.3 mm.
