Hoya sp. Chicken Farm (EKW 97-005) reminds, in my opinion, of Hoya finlaysonii. It was collected by Eva-Karin Wiberg in 1997 near Tenom in Sabah, Borneo. It was found near a place where chicken where seen, thereby the name of this hoya.

I got my cutting from her in 2006 and now, a year later, it flowered for the first time. The flowers are really beautiful even though I had expected them to be a bit bigger. Compared to the large leaves they look really

small. The flowers are most beatiful when looking at them from the side. Then you can see the nice shift from yellow to red on the corolla. I have not felt any scent of the flowers, but it might just be me putting my nose there at the wrong time of the day.

I think the large silver flecked leaves make this hoya very decorative. It tolerates drought and it is easy to grow, so it is good choice for the beinner.

I guess in time this will be a big plant even if it does not seem to be the fastest growing hoya. So it might be an good idea to use a steady support from the beginning.

On the picture to the left the flowers have begun to fade.
