Hoya stoneana

R. D. Kloppenburg & S. Siar

Published in Fraterna 19(4):19 (2006) by R. D. Kloppenburg and S. Siar. It's unknown where Hoya stoneana was collected. Hoya stoneana is named in honour of Margie Stone.

Hoya stoneana has been circulating as Hoya longifolia (pubescent form) for years. It was recently published as Hoya stoneana. I actually got one plant of Hoya stoneana named Hoya dennisii, but it was a mistake of a Hoya grower here in Sweden.

Colour: yellowish white corolla, white corona
Form: flat

Hoya stoneana seems to prefer some colder temperature so I guess it grows on higher altitudes in the wild. It thrives in my garden room although the windows are facing south. When the sun comes back in spring I take my plant from the window.

The leaves are long, narrow and slightly pubescent. They are dark green and quite shiny. Although Hoya stoneana has some climbing abilities I think this species looks best hanging. The hairy flowers remind of Hoya

thomsonii, but when looking at the back side I think they look more like Hoya serpens. Unfortunately the scent is not very enjoyable. Luckily it is not very strong.

To the left is a picture of the pollinarium which measures 1 mm.
