Hoya verticillata (Vahl) var. verticillata G. Don (Lao)

Published in A General History of the Dichlamydeous Plants 4(2) 128 (1838) by G. Don. Hoya verticillata var. verticillata originates from India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. It was originally published as Sperlingia verticillata by Martin Vahl in Skrifter af Naturhistorie-Selskabet 6 112 (1810). Originally it was found by the Dane Peter Johan Flohr in India.

The latin word verticillatus refers to the growth habit of the leaves at the nodes and means whorled, i.e. the leaves grow round a common axis.

Hoya verticillata
var. verticillata (Lao) is my favourite among the verticillatas, most because of the lovely foliage. The leaves are quite big, 11-13 cm long and 6-7,5 cm wide, and they are covered with light green flecks. The leaves are thick, hard, shiny and medium green. As all verticillatas Hoya verticillata var. verticillata

(Lao) is easy to grow.  Some have this one named (Lao1). I don't know which is correct so I'll keep the name my plant had when I bought it. I also suspect Lao should be Laos but I'm not sure.

The flowers look very much like the ones on Hoya verticillata var. verticillata (Green Form) except for the colour of the corollas which is paler on this one. Hoya verticillata var. verticillata (Lao) also seems to have more flowers in the cluster than Hoya verticillata var. verticillata (Green Form) has.
